In 1994, the body of a man frozen in the ice for 5000 years was discovered by hikers in Northern Italy, nicknamed Otzi or the Iceman . An expert in DNA, Bryan Sykes, was able to trace mitochondrial DNA to 7 women, the oldest known direct ancestors of a very significant portion of living women in Europe today, including one who was working in Sykes lab at the time. The oldest of these women, nicknamed Ursula lived 45,000 years ago, the youngest, nicknamed Jasmine lived 10,000 years ago, were far from the only women alive at the time, but the offspring of others were either male, or their offspring didn't survive to reproduce. All of this is detailed in a very readable book by Sykes, The Seven Daughters of Eve which lays to rest any Adam and Eve tales for all time, and the repugnant original sin doctrine with it.
